According to , the Mexican forward is all set to rejoin his old teammates after an agreement was reached on the very last day for Major League Soccer teams to set their rosters for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs. During his previous stint at LAFC, Vela was earning a guaranteed $4.4 million (£3.3m) in 2023. However, it has been reported that the new deal comes with a significant pay cut for the striker who last played a competitive match on December 9, 2023, when LAFC lost to the Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup final.

Vela soon became a free agent and throughout the winter and spring of 2024, the forward was in talks with various clubs, including the Earthquakes, Sociedad, and various Mexican teams about a potential move. Despite these opportunities, Vela’s affection for LAFC never waned. According to reports, he didn’t even clear out his locker at LAFC’s training facility, suggesting that he always remained in touch with the club officials.

Vela boasts of a remarkable chapter in LAFC’s history. The Mexican forward was the club’s very first signing in 2017 and played an instrumental role in shaping the team’s success. Vela’s contributions to the team have been monumental, with the 35-year-old holding several club records, including most games played (152), most starts (127), most goals (78), and most assists (58).
