Ruben Amorim explains benching Benjamin Sesko for second successive week with Man Utd's new £74m striker 'still trying to understand everything' at Old Trafford

Ruben Amorim has explained his decision to leave new Manchester United signing Benjamin Sesko on the bench for the second consecutive week. Sesko, who joined the Red Devils from RB Leipzig for a whopping £74 million ($100m) earlier this summer, came off the bench against Arsenal on matchday one and was also left out of the starting XI for Sunday's trip to Fulham.

Amorim made just one change to the lineup that started against Arsenal last Sunday as Amad Diallo replaced Diogo Dalot at right wing-back. Mason Mount once again started upfront alongside Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, as Sesko had to be content with a place among the substitutes.

Explaining his decision to bench Sesko again, United boss Amorim said to : "We tried to imagine what is going to happen during the game. Our team needs to be consistent in the way that we control the game and we need to have options to play a different game on the bench. Sesko has had two weeks for us, he is trying to understand everything. We need to wait a little bit to help the player. We just want to win the game and try to help all of our players."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amorim's decision to keep Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir in the starting lineup, despite his horror show against Arsenal, raised quite a few eyebrows. Bayindir's blunder gifted the Gunners a 1-0 win at Old Trafford last weekend, but he managed to retain his place ahead of Andre Onana, who was named on the bench against Fulham.
